Phase 2 of Water Project Begins
Phase 1 of the Stanly County Utilities Greater Badin Water and Sewer District potable water system replacement project is nearly complete and work began on Phase 2 on Kirk Place in mid-April. Badin residents were among the first in Stanly County to enjoy a town-wide drinking water system with 100 years of service to date. But the system is beyond repair and is being replaced. The days of failed pipes, discolored water and pressure problems are nearly over. US Dept. of Agriculture and NC Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources grants are being used for the project. Town manger, Jay Almond asks for residents’ patience as trenches and ditches, mud and dust invade the town. The results will be reliable, quality drinking water, enhanced fire protection and maybe even lower insurance rates.
